Description

Korean Studies Electives

This course investigates representation of gender, sexuality, and family in Korean society through the examination of various literary, cinematic, historical, and theoretical texts. From an interdisciplinary perspective, the course will question how the Korean nation-state and its socio-political changes have impacted gender and sexuality in historical & transnational contexts. We will critically explore how gendered images are framed by social norms but also challenges and de-stabilize those norms. Texts include literature, ethnographies, oral histories, visual culture, and films.
